To arrive at a ranking of Florida's beaches with the whitest sand, the Alertstays team analyzed 15 of the most popular and acclaimed beaches across the state where pristine sand is a major draw. Unedited Google Maps screenshots of each location were obtained and analyzed using a color dropper tool to extract the RGB code of each beach's sand. These codes were then compared against the RGB code of the world's whitest shade of white, namely, pure white as defined by color theory standards. Using a calculator tool, the team determined which beaches' sand came closest to that perfect white shade.
The results showcase Florida's exceptional white sand beaches. Sombrero Beach in Marathon, Florida took the top spot with an impressive 96.5% whiteness score, demonstrating one of the most impressive matches to pure white among all analyzed beaches. Located in the Florida Keys, Sombrero Beach is known for its calm, crystal-clear waters and excellent snorkeling opportunities. The beach gets its name from the distinctive Sombrero Reef Lighthouse, an iconic structure visible from the shore that guides mariners through these waters.
Marco Island ranked second overall with a 95.9% whiteness score. Known as one of Florida's most exclusive beach destinations, Marco Island boasts not only some of the whitest sand but also upscale resorts, fine dining, and world-class fishing. The beach is particularly popular among families and those seeking a more luxurious beach experience.
Following closely behind were two other standout destinations. Honeymoon Island State Park scored 95.2% with its exceptional whiteness, placing it among Florida's premier white sand destinations.
